Annual Christmas Concert

Ardee Concert Band had a fabulous night on Friday December 13th. It may be unlucky for some but without a doubt it was a day for celebration here in the bandrooms of the Bohemian Centre.

We had plenty to celebrate throughout the night with over 130 musicians taking to the Bohemian Centre Stage throughout the festive music making night.

Our National Title winning Senior band were 1st to the stage under the Baton of Newly appointed conductor Ronan O’Reilly for a taster of what was to come later on in the night. Jenny Satelle , a member of the senior band directed the Recorder group through 2 pieces only 3 months after they joined the band and began learning how to read music and play their instrument. “Well done to Jenny and her little troop, they done themselves, the band and their families proud”, said Pro Sinead Nutley.

Next the Junior band who again have only been in a band setting for 3 months gave an outstanding performance with their conductor and senior band member Jane Healy.

Our Ardee Intermezzo Ensemble gave a finale performance to the 1st half of the show with Kevin Reilly at the helm. They gave a tremendous performance for which a standing ovation followed and rightly so.

Our senior band once again took to the stage for the second half of the show. We had everyone in the 400 seats singing and clapping throughout their performance. By the end of the night the band along with Ronan had them on their feet and dancing out the action to The twelve days of Christmas. After a standing ovation the band played the audience out to the festive favourite Sleigh ride by Leroy Anderson. Everyone left the Bohemian Centre with a smile on the face and a beat at the feet.

Thanks to all for coming and supporting us as always. Thanks to all our helpers on all sides of the concert. Well done to Dara Reilly receiving her New Art set for winning the christmas poster competition.

Many acalades were presented on the night for determination, Hard work, improvement and dedication.

Congratulations to Holly Caraher on receiving the award for most improved members of the Junior Band, to Aoibheann Murray on most improved youth member in the Intermezzo Ensemble receiving the Stephen Lynch Perpetual Trophy. To Roisin Brennan; Well done on receiving the Sean Matthews Award for most improved senior band member & to Jenny Mckeever and Sinéad Nutley on 21 years of Membership.

National Glory section 1 Winners 2019

Ardee Concert Senior Band excelled at the IABCB National Band Championships of Ireland in Artane last saturday afternoon April 12th in the bandhall of the Artane Band! What a day it was for us; a local community band from little old Ardee!
Under the baton of Mr. James MacCafferty, We took home 1st prize with 190 points out of a possible 200 in Section 1 as awarded by adjudicator Mr. Alan Morrison. We were also awarded Best Supporting Section for our percussion and Best Instrumentalist to our Principal French Horn Player Vincent Mcardle.

The bands Own choice piece “Godzilla eats Las Vegas” brought Alan to a standstil as he mentioned in his remakes as “he had to stop writing incase he missed something!”. The piece tells the story of godzilla making his way down the las vegas strip on a bright and sunny day. Godzilla appears,  tourists scream, and the band calls for Godzilla to Mambo.

Godzilla demolishes everything in his path, cars, buildings, he even stomps a tiny terrier and then various celebrities, as Frank Sinatra, Wayne Newton and Liberace.

An army of Elvises (Elvi) appear in the distance, marching through the littered streets. The Elvi attack using bombers and missiles. The Sphinx sits outside The Luxor and seduces Godzilla who instantly falls in love and begins to tango with her.

As they dance, the Elvi slowly regroup and launch a ferocious volley of cannonballs directly at him.The cannonballs find their mark, and Godzilla falls to the ground, annihilated. The Elvi are triumphant! The lounge opens again, and the city of Las Vegas toasts the victory. The scene climaxes with people happy, tearful, and merry. But Then, a dark, ominous, and very familiar sound…Godzilla lives! Godzilla lives!

In a very different second performance our Test Piece “A movement for Rosa”, told the emotional, moving story written to honor Rosa Parks, whose contribution to desegregation still stands today. Not only are strength and determination depicted in this piece, but also the harsh realities of the times. We kept Alan engaged in this emotional piece until the very last moment.

GODZILLA EATS LAS VEGAS Own Choice Piece

Godzilla Eats Las Vegas!

Before you listen to this piece, please take a moment to read this short description which will make sense of what you hear.

The piece opens on a bright and sunny day in Las Vegas with the show band kicking off in high gear but then, a lone piccolo ushers the arrival of something very bad on the famous Vegas strip.

Back to the band and a relaxed rhumba. Then Morse Code signals approaching doom. The house band finishes their set and heads for the bar.

Godzilla appears, tourists scream, and the band calls for Godzilla to Mambo.

He then demolishes everything in his path, cars, buildings, he even stomps a tiny terrier and then various celebrities, Frank Sinatra, Wayne Newton and Liberace.

An army of Elvises (Elvi) appear in the distance, marching through the littered streets. The Elvi attack using bombers and missiles. The Sphinx sits outside The Luxor hotel and seduces Godzilla who instantly falls in love and begins to tango with her.

The lounge is open again, and the city of Las Vegas toasts the victory. The scene climaxes with people happy, tearful, and merry.

Then, a dark, ominous, and very familiar sound…….…Godzilla lives! Godzilla lives!

The adjudicator gives feedback which is priceless for the development of young musicians. It also gives them experience of public performance and meeting and hearing other students of the same age from all around Ireland. “This, in my opinion, is extremely important for young developing musicians”, said Robert Finegan.

“The committee and all members of Ardee Concert Band wish all 4 members the very best of luck on their performance”, said Band PRO Sinead Nutley.
